Interesting things I have been “tipped” while street/subway performing
*Foreign currency - I love looking at different designs on money. I keep it all in hopes of touring the globe.
*A very sweet note on a dollar bill - Penn Station NYC
*A Glass Bead - Haight street in San Francisco
*A Poem - written on an old envelope - Haight St., San Francisco
*A fabulous drawing of myself street performing - Christmas Eve in Old Pasadena. Check it out!! -->
*A photo of a friend and myself on the cover of Vogue - The vendor had asked me to sing. I took out my guitar and it was my first time street performing. A little crowd gathered and I was hooked!! - At a booth in Times Sq
*Black Thermal Underwear in a ziplock freezer bag labeled in black sharpie: XL-CLEAN - (I gave them to one of the bums that was listening to me perform) - Irving and 9th in San Francisco
*Phone numbers - Because buskers are sexy - Mostly NYC
*Pamphlets about God, Drugs, Aids, Buddah - Mostly NYC
*Offers to sing and sample my music on hip hop/rap albums. "Do you have knife tracks?" I think that means raw/demo tracks... - Mostly NYC
*A stick of incense - Just realized I had this “flammable” in my carry on/guitar case on a flight - Hollywood Walk of Fame
*A ball chain necklace with a quarter as the charm that someone handmade - I asked for it... well... about it and he gave it to me but it still counts! - Times Sq, NYC
*Other peoples CD's - Peter, one of the workers at Penn Station and a good Subway friend put out an album with two other subway workers that I think is great! - Penn Station NYC
*A very cool crystal heart that I keep for good luck - Penn Station, NYC
*Guitar Pic’s - Some red ones and a special one that matched my guitar - Union Square, NYC
*A guitar string earring - direct from the ear of a man wearing a real turtle shell as a hat, I didn’t want to take such a personal and prized possession, so I gave it back - St. Louis
*An enamel jewelry box with a new friends business card inside - it broke in my luggage on the way from San Fran to LA - Irving and 9th in San Francisco
*A ball of drugs… I’m assuming pot - I don’t use drugs and threw it out of my case when I realized it was in there. One of the dressed up characters on the walk of fame took it when I told him about it (I’m not going to tell you which loveable children’s character smokes) just before two biker cops pulled over a car right behind me - Hollywood Walk of Fame
Update 5/18/09
*Spit – from a delightfully crazy bum, someone who saw him spit gave me a wet nap to clean it up - Penn Station, NYC
*Granola Bars, I passed them on to some bums. Maybe I’ll have better karma and won’t get spit in my case again! - Penn Station, NYC
*Two long stemmed roses, sweet! - Penn Station, NYC
*A twig of pot (un-bagged) from some drunk Knick’s fans. I told them I wouldn’t smoke it and they should take it back and after much convincing they decided to “accidentally” toss their chap-stick in my case and retrieve both the chap-stick and pot from my guitar case. I saw them a few months later and told them to make it out to a show soon… They thought that might be cool and asked me where the next one was. “Iowa,” I said, “you think you can make it?!” To which they replied, “Iowa man, potatoes.” …They might have smoked a little too much. - Penn Station, NYC
